A Kerry councillor has said it’s not good enough that half of the people whose land is being used for the South Kerry Greenway have not been paid.

The land being used for the 32-kilometre greenway from Glenbeigh to Renard was acquired by Kerry County Council through compulsory purchase order.

This month’s meeting of Kerry County Council heard that fewer than half of the landowners affected have been paid yet, while the overall cost of the project is now estimated to be €72 million.

The first part of the greenway opened to the public in December at Kells, while Glenbeigh to Mountain Stage will open next month.

Cllr Jackie Healy-Rae says it’s not fair for landowners not to have been paid yet by the council.
