A Kerry County Councillor is calling for a fund from the dog licences' fees to compensate sheep farmers who have lost sheep from dog attacks.
Cllr Dan McCarthy will be raising the issue at the monthly Kerry County Council meeting.
He says dog licences raise over three hundred thousand euro each year in the county, and some of this could be put aside to help replenish sheep stock lost in dog attacks.
Cllr McCarthy does not think that this policy would have an effect in the cost of the dog licence fee, and would encourage stricter policing of non license holders.
