Kerry councillor calls for reopening of Skellig Michael to visitors

A Kerry councillor has called for the reopening of Skellig Michael to visitors.

Fianna Fáil councillor, Michael Cahill, said many businesses in South Kerry depend on the footfall created by Skellig Michael for their success.

He also said tour boat operators along the Iveragh coast are totally dependent on the UNESCO World Heritage Site for their livelihoods and are more than ready to resume business in a safe manner.

Councillor Cahill said the closure of the island to visitors last year was a huge blow to the local economy.
