A Kerry county councillor is asking for protocols to be put in place for treatment of the victims of suspected cases of spiking.
Fianna Fáil councillor Jimmy Moloney is raising the issue at today’s meeting of Kerry County Council.
He says when people who have allegedly been spiked present at the Emergency Department, there is no set protocols for their treatment or the collection of evidence.
His motion at the council meeting asks the ministers for health and justice to establish a clear pathway for suspected spiking incidents to be treated as crimes, investigated promptly, and supported by protocols.
Cllr Moloney says the lack of proper reporting means this may be a wider issue than the figures suggest.
