A Kerry County Councillor is calling for the cut-off age for child benefit to be increased.

Independent councillor Dan McCarthy wants the relevant authorities to increase the children's allowance cut-off age from 18 to 21 years of age.

Cllr McCarthy brought a motion on the matter before the monthly meeting of Kerry County Council.

He says many young people are remaining in education into their early 20s and he feels it would be beneficial for families.
