A Kerry county councillor is calling for clarification on the formation of the Shannon Estuary task force.

Fine Gael councillor Michael Foley says he's made contact with his party leader, Tánaiste Leo Varadkar, seeking clarification on the matter, as he says the situation in North Kerry is urgent.

The regional jobs taskforce will examine ways to develop the economic potential of the estuary across Kerry, Limerick and Clare.

Cllr Foley says the task force must not impede the Shannon LNG technology and energy hub in any way, and should aim to attract both national and foreign companies.

The Fine Gael councillor added that although he's been calling for the task force since the formation of this government, he will hold judgement until he sees that its terms of reference are of advantage to North Kerry.
