Kerry beachgoers are being advised to wear footwear if straying from busier areas.
Weever fish, which are 4-6 inches in length, have been seen in beaches around the province in recent weeks.
Marine biologist Kevin Flannery says the small fish buries itself in the sand in an effort to catch prey, however, to protect itself, it’s developed a spike on its back which can inject venom.

He says weever fish generally prefer quieter beaches.
