Kerry artist shortlisted for AIB Portrait Prize at the National Gallery of Ireland
Clodagh O'Leary, 'Never Be Without Your Horse'

A Kerry artist has been shortlisted for this year’s AIB Portrait Prize.

Clodagh O’Leary is among 26 artists nominated for her photograph ‘Never Be Without Your Horse’.

All shortlisted artworks will go on display at the National Gallery of Ireland in Dublin running from November 8th to March 15th 2026.

The winner will be announced on November 25th receiving a cash prize of €15,000 along with a €5,000 commission to create a new piece for the National Portrait collection.

Two highly commended art pieces will also receive €1,500 each.

The competition is to run in partnership with Regional Cultural Centre, Letterkenny and Waterford Gallery of Art.

Judges for the competition are artist Gareth Reid, Professor Emily Mark-FitzGerald, Professor in the School of Art History and Cultural Policy in UCD and Dr Barbara Dawson, Director of the Hugh Lane Gallery.

The AIB Young Portrait Prize returns for its seventh year and will showcase artists eighteen and younger.

Five winners one from each age category will receive a bespoke art box and a cash prize.

The overall winner will be awarded a personalised wooden box of high-quality art materials and a cash prize of €500.

Judges for the AIB Young Portrait Prize include Cian O’Brien of COBA: Arts, artist Neil-Jack Alphonsus Hamilton and artist Alice Rekab.
