Kerry is one of only three counties in the state where taxi driver numbers have increased.
That’s according to figures from the National Transport Authority which show a decline in taxi’s in 23 counties.
According to the report, Kerry, Dublin and Limerick are the only counties nationally to record a rise in taxi driver numbers, post-covid.
The figures show, there were 1,080 SPSV (Small Public Service Vehicle) driver licenses’ active in Kerry last year.
That’s an increase of over 6% when compared with the previous year, when there were 1,017 taxi drivers in the county.
The 2024 figure is also a jump of almost 9% when compared to pre-covid; when 994 licenses were operational in Kerry (2019).
Regionally, there was an over 3% increase in the number of SPSV drivers in Munster, it jumped from 5,303 in 2023, to 5,509 last year.
