Kerry has been allocated nearly €800,000 for outdoor infrastructure works.
The funding has been allocated to 20 projects, which includes pedestrianisation, planting, parking and road works.
The Additional Outdoor Infrastructure Fund will support local authorities to enhance outdoor urban spaces and improving walking and cycling infrastructure.
In Tralee, €41,000 will go towards seating, planting, signage and bike parking works.
In the Castleisland and Corca Dhuibhne Municipal District, €85,000 will be used to fund bollards, parklets, buildouts and cycle parking.
Cahersiveen, Kenmare and Killorglin will receive between €15,000 and €30,000 to repurpose car parking using bollards and plants.
Half of the €793,000 has been allocated for projects in Killarney, including €125,000 for the pedestrianisation of Well Lane and €135,000 for the reallocation of car parking spaces in the Glebe carpark, and on Beach Road and College Street to a public realm.
The biggest single allocation of €191,000 has been given to Listowel for lining, bollards, signage, parklets and temporary buildouts.
Listowel Fianna Fáil councillor Jimmy Moloney says there was disappointment in the area when previous allocations were announced and the increase is something he’d called for since.
Fine Gael councillor Mike Kennelly says the funding will be of huge benefit to the town and will complement existing and proposed amenities in the area.
