Kerry Airport has been allocated over €1.8 million in government support.
It’s part of almost €8 million in funding announced by Minister for Transport, Darragh O’Brien, under the Regional Airports Programme 2021-2025.
The funding has been welcomed by Kerry Fianna Fáil TD Michael Cahill, his party colleague and Childrens’ Minister, Norma Foley; Fine Gael Senator Mike Kennelly, Minister of State Michael Healy-Rae and Independent TD Danny Healy-Rae.
Kerry Airport has welcomed the announcement of over €1.8 million (€1,813,000) in funding from the Department of Transport.
It says this will go towards the development and enhancement of security, runway remedial works and taxiway markings.
Other approved projects at the Farranfore airport include -oversize baggage dual view Xray unit; baggage equipment and transport; and the purchase of new fully-electric Ground Power Unit (GPU).
Kerry Airport says the funding will also help ensure it remains compliant with regulatory requirements in key areas, such as air traffic control, fire services and security, while delivering a greener operational environment.
Other airports to benefit under the exchequer funding include Ireland West – Knock Airport, which is to receive over €5.6 million; and Donegal Airport which has been allocated over €300,000 in grants.
