A judge has remanded a Kenmare man, who was found guilty of threatening to kill another man, in custody until his sentencing because of safety concerns.
A jury of five women and seven men unanimously found 57-year-old year old John Foley of Kenmare town guilty of four charges.
He faced three counts of threatening to kill Pat Harney and one count of criminal damage of Mr Harney's house, in March and April 2020.
Tralee Circuit Court had heard that Mr Foley's relationship with the mother of his children Margaret 'Peggy' Delaney ended two years before the incidents, however they were still living together.
Despite this, Mr Foley believed that Ms Delaney was having an affair with Mr Harney.
After the verdicts were announced today, Judge Alec Gabbett thanked the jury for their service and excused them from jury duty for five years.
Mr Foley had been out on bail during the trial, but Judge Alec Gabbett was reluctant to extend bail due to 'concerns for the safety of those involved.'
Judge Gabbett said this would allay his fear that something could "happen tonight bringing us back to square one.
He said he was concerned by Mr Foley's psychological profile, and cognisant that the Garda Armed Support Unit had had to be called in April 2020 during one of the incidents.
Mr Foley was remanded in custody until his sentencing at Tralee Circuit Court next Wednesday (29 April).
