Elected Kerry councillors will write to the ESB requesting homes on its vulnerable customer list be adapted and supplied with generators.
It follows a motion at the recent full meeting of Kerry County Council, from Fine Gael councillor, Teddy O’Sullivan-Casey.
He says a scheme should be introduced for such customers, many of whom depend on electricity to run vital medical equipment in their homes.
Cllr O’Sullivan-Casey added, during recent storms, many homes on the vulnerable customer list were without power, and were advised to attend their local GP or hospital.
He urged the council to sit down with the ESB, HSE and national emergency coordination group to implement and roll out such a plan.
The motion was seconded by Fianna Fáil councillor, Fionnán Fitzgerald, who added such a scheme should extend to cover areas which suffer extended outages.
