Kenmare councillor says additional oil refineries with increased storage need to be developed

A Kenmare councillor says additional oil refineries need to be developed and increased storage is needed at such facilities.

Independent councillor Dan McCarthy says now is the time take to action on such moves, instead of waiting for the next fuel crisis.

He and Beara based councillor Finbarr Harrington, believe an oil refinery should be developed at Whiddy Island, Cork.

The National Oil Reserve Agency holds reserves in strategic locations - including Tarbert, Whitegate Refinery and Foynes.
