Kerry County Council is one of just eight local authorities in Ireland not to increase the Local Property Tax (LPT) by the maximum amount.
That's according to a report in today’s Irish Independent.
Under current legislation, councillors can vary the LPT by +/-15% annually or leave it unchanged.
In October, Kerry councillors approved a 10% increase for the next three years.
The other councils opting out of the maximum increase are Cork City, Kildare, Meath, Wicklow, Louth, and Mayo.
Only Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown has retained the full 15% reduction in an area with the country’s highest house prices.
The report states that the Department of Finance and local councils insist that 96 per-cent of people will stay in their current band, with only small increases of between 5 and 25 euro.
From next year, councils will have the option to reduce the base rate by up to 15% or raise it by up to 25%.
