Just over €1 million has been allocated to schools in Kerry this year to provide small-scale minor maintenance and improvement works.
The Minor Works Grant is provided to all primary and special schools, and over €310 million euro has been allocated from the scheme since 2020.
The Minor Works Grant Scheme is a program that provides funding to primary and special schools in Ireland for small-scale maintenance and improvement works to their buildings and grounds.
The funding is typically paid in advance of the school year, and allows schools to address essential repairs, purchase standard furniture and equipment, and make necessary upgrades.
The scheme also aims to support schools in maintaining safe and functional learning environments.
The funding is made available to all primary and special schools on the basis of a €5,500 basic grant plus €18.50 per mainstream pupil and €74 per special needs pupil.
Figures are based on the number of students enrolled in the school on the 30th of September of the year prior to the issue of the grant.
Since 2020, over €10 million (€10.87) has been allocated to mainstream and special needs schools in Kerry, with €1.07 million allocated for the 2025/2026 academic year.
The figures were provided by the Minister for Education and Skills Helen McEntee following a query from Sinn Féin TD Conor McGuinness.
