It was always clear that Jessie Buckley was a talent apart according to a Killarney councillor.
Cllr Marie Moloney is a member of Killarney Musical Society which Jessie joined as a child.
The deputy Cathaoirleach of Kerry County Council recalls theatre director Oliver Hurley saying that the young Jessie was destined for greatness.
The 36 year-old actress is one step closer to that Oscar glory, having won the Golden Globe for Female Actor in a Motion Picture in the drama category at last night's awards.
Tributes have been rolling in for the Killarney, with President Catherine Connolly praising her "wonderful achievement", while the Taoiseach has deemed her win "richly deserved".
Cllr Moloney says that Jessie's win highlights the importance of community arts groups as they nurture and provide a platform for local talent.
The nominations for the Oscars will be announced on January 22nd.
