Irish Water to replace twice the amount of water mains on Board of Works Road as originally planned

Irish Water is to replace over twice the amount of water mains on the Board of Works Road as originally planned this year.

The utility previously confirmed it was to replace 1.2km of water mains along the Board of Works Road in mid Kerry, with works expected to begin within the next week and last until early September.

Irish Water says the works will improve reliability of water supply in the Beaufort, Listry and Faha areas, which have recently been subjected to consistent and numerous outages.

Cathaoirleach of the Kenmare Municipal District, Fianna Fáil councillor Michael Cahill says he's now received confirmation that Irish Water has approved additional funding for the works, which will increase the amount of water mains to be replaced from 1.2km, as originally planned, to 2.6km.

Cllr Cahill believes the entire pipework needs to be replaced, while Irish Water says it will take significant investment over many years to bring current water assets to a good standard, particularly in Kerry.
