Irish Rail will engage with Kerry County Council on a request for a discreet text alert system for passengers on trains serving Kerry.
The request was made by Fianna Fáil councillor Mikey Sheehy at the last monthly Kerry County Council meeting.
He said this would allow passengers to confidentially report concerns, including instances of anti-social behaviour, via text message or other non-intrusive means, without feeling threatened or intimidated.
Barry Kenny from Irish Rail says a text alert system like this already exists on DART and commuter services around Dublin because those trains are mostly unmanned.
He says there are customer service officers onboard trains serving Kerry, to whom passengers can report any issues.
