A Sinn Féin MEP for Ireland South has rejected the claim that her party is soft in its stance on Russia.
MEP Kathleen Funchion is in Kerry today, visiting Tír nan Óg Early Years Care and Education Centre, Ballybunion, and Adapt Kerry Women’s Refuge in Tralee.
This week, a motion was put to a vote in the European Parliament regarding Ukraine, on which Sinn Féin MEPs abstained.
The motion included that MEPs reassert unwavering commitment to Ukraine’s independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, and advance Ukraine’s membership bid as fast as possible.
The motion also stipulated that the EU and its member states must remain Ukraine’s strategic allies.
MEP Kathleen Funchion says the party is fully supportive of Ukraine, but disagrees with military intervention by Ireland.
