An Ireland South MEP is calling on both the European Commission and the Irish Government to begin serious conversations around a referendum on Irish Unity.
Sinn Féin MEP Kathleen Funchion says the conversation around the reunification of Ireland is gaining traction, particularly around the younger generations.
She feels that there is an urgency for the government to act in a timely manner to put in the groundwork for a referendum to take place.
MEP Funchion feels that this should include establishing a citizens' assembly to begin shaping what a new and united Ireland would look like.
