Increase in traffic collisions in first five months of the year

The number of traffic collisions in Kerry increased over the first five months of the year.

According to figures presented at the recent Joint Policing Committee meeting, there were increases across all categories of traffic collisions, including those resulting in material damage, non-serious injuries and serious injuries.

There were 572 collisions which resulted in material damage over the first five months of 2022, up 80% on 2021.

Collisions resulting in non serious injury increased by 47%, while collisions resulting in serious injury increased by 23% on last year.

Meanwhile, Garda figures show 111 intoxicated while driving incidents, an increase of 82%.
