A 29-year-old Hungarian man has been sent forward to the Circuit Criminal Court on animal cruelty charges.
Richard Daroczi, previously of 15 Ely O’Carroll Place, Nenagh, Co Tipperary appeared before Judge David Waters at Tralee District Court.
He faces four charges including stealing a sheep in lamb and causing unnecessary suffering to an animal near Killarney in January.
Richard Daroczi is charged with stealing an in-lamb ewe sheep worth €500, on January 5th at Cummeenabrick, Clonkeen.
At the same place and on the same date, he’s also charged with two counts of causing unnecessary suffering to an animal under the Animal Health and Welfare Act.
It’s alleged that he killed the ewe by cutting its throat.
The fourth charge against him is the theft of €20 worth of fuel from O’Briens in Glenflesk also on January 5th.
At Tralee District Court Judge David Waters indicated that the DPP directed trial on indictment in the case.
Through a Hungarian translator Mr Daroczi consented to being sent forward on a signed plea.
His solicitor Padraig O’ Connell told the judge there was no application for bail.
Judge Waters sent Mr Daroczi forward to the next sitting of Tralee Circuit Criminal Court.
Separately, the 29 year-old was further remanded in custody in relation to a number of charges, including theft, possession of drugs for personal use, drink driving, and driving without insurance.
Mr O’Connell highlighted the benefit of having a Hungarian interpreter present in the court for the next appearance.
Judge Waters approved this application and remanded Mr Daroczi in custody, to appear in person before Tralee District Court on April 16th.
