The HSE says a newly-completed extension at Mallow General Hospital will benefit patients of University Hospital Kerry.
Mallow General this week welcomed the first patients to a new extension which contains 24 single rooms, bringing its total capacity from 71 to 95 beds.
HSE South West is reminding patients at UHK they may be transferred to other facilities to maximise access to UHK, when it is medically appropriate to do so.
Damien Moyles, Operations Manager at UHK, says transferring patients from UHK to other appropriate facilities reduces delays for everyone in need of UHK’s services.
HSE South West says the increased bed capacity in Mallow will ease pressure on the acute hospital system right across the region, and improve access to inpatient services.
