HSE meeting with nurses’ union tomorrow over Killarney hospital staffing levels

The HSE hopes to reach an agreement with the nurses’ union at a meeting tomorrow, to prevent industrial action over proposed staffing at the Killarney Community Nursing Unit.

The Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation last week said it had served a notice of industrial action on HSE South West, over proposed staffing levels at the as-yet-unopened Killarney facility.

Independent Kerry TD Danny Healy-Rae raised the matter in the Dáil this morning, where he was told the HSE still plans to open the unit by the end of June.

The HSE is still engaging with the Health Information and Quality Authority on minor works which need to be completed before the facility can be registered.

Minister of State at the Department of Health, Jennifer Murnane O’Connor, gave this update to Deputy Healy-Rae:

Kerry TD Danny Healy-Rae said the HSE had years to get these issues sorted before now, when the facility is due to open.
