The HSE has cut home care waiting lists in Kerry by 60% in the last two and a half years.
The latest figures from the Health Service Executive show there are still over 100 people in Kerry awaiting home support.
As of the end of November 101 people were awaiting home support in Kerry; just 25 are awaiting new home support service, with 76 awaiting additional hours of home support.
The waiting list for home care in Kerry has been decreasing rapidly over the last three years.
In July 2023, there were 265 people on the waiting list for home care in Kerry.
This had dropped to 160 by November 2023, and down again to 125 in November 2024.
HSE South West says this is a very positive reflection on the work of the home support service in this region to achieve a very high level of delivery within the constraints of available capacity.
It said projections indicate it will also surpass its target for this year, of delivering over 878,000 hours of home support in Kerry.
HSE South West says supporting older people in Kerry as they age and improving access to home support service is a key priority, as it enables older people to live independently and with dignity in their own homes for longer.
It says demand for home support is projected to increase substantially with an ageing population.
HSE South West said improving access to home support for older people in Kerry is a service priority and it will continue working to identify strategies to improve the quality of life for older persons living in their own communities.
