A residential care facility near Tralee has been found to provide its residents with a “generally good quality of life”.
The Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA) has published a report following its most recent unannounced adult safeguarding inspection of Ballyseedy House (11 March).
Resilience Healthcare Limited operates the centre, which is home to six adults with autism spectrum disorders, intellectual disabilities, or physical or sensory needs.
A new quality manager has been appointed by the provider, who will be responsible for carrying out internal inspections every six months.
HIQA inspector Kerrie O’Halloran found the centre to be compliant with four regulations and substantially compliant with a further four, under the relevant safeguarding standards.
Following the inspection, the person in charge committed to ensuring all staff have completed online Positive Behaviour Support training.
In addition, future annual reviews will include resident consultations; safeguarding updates will be accurately documented and communicated to staff; restrictive practices will only be used with residents’ consent; residents will be supported in making informed choices about meals and outings; and equipment needs for the sensory room will be addressed.
