Presidential candidate Heather Humphreys has rejected the allegation that Maria Steen was actively blocked from running by the larger political parties.
Ms Steen was short two nominations from Oireachtas members in her bid to get on the ballot for the presidential election, with some of her supporters blaming Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil for stopping her getting enough nominations.
Fine Gael’s Heather Humphreys, who was speaking on a visit to Kerry today, says the process is democratic, and every candidate knows what the requirements are.
She said she wants to be a president for everyone, including any supporters of Maria Steen, and she hopes they use their vote.
Heather Humphreys says she’s certainly never been afraid of competition from anyone on a ballot paper.
