The health watchdog HIQA has published a report on Killarney Community Hospital District Unit following an inspection in February (18-19 February 2025).
The hospital was assessed against eleven National Standards for Safer Better Healthcare.
Staffing and day-to-day management were fully compliant.
Admissions, discharges and medication safety were well organised, and patients were reviewed promptly.
Staff levels were sufficient, training was high, and support for workers was strong.
Governance was rated substantially compliant.
The hospital had clear reporting lines and regular meetings, but some meetings lacked written terms of reference and not all actions were clearly assigned.
Monitoring and quality improvement were also substantially compliant, though not all incidents were reported and some outcome data was incomplete.
Overall, HIQA said Killarney Community Hospital provides good care but needs to strengthen reporting and meeting procedures.
