Gardaí in Kerry have seized a number of e-scooters following a targeted operation.
The Road Policing Unit confiscated 6 vehicles in total, for various offences under the current regulations.
E-scooter regulations include that users must be aged 16 or over, the vehicle has a maximum speed of 20 km/h, and they are not permitted on footpaths or pedestrianised areas
All of the seized vehicles were capable of driving at speeds well in excess of the legal limit - one vehicle was capable of driving at a speed in excess of 100km/hr.
Penalties have been issued to the adult drivers and 2 juvenile drivers.
Gardai are asking that parents and all persons to familiarise themselves with the regulations and the dangers associated with these types of vehicles.
