Gardaí are appealing for information relating to a gorse fire in South Kerry that damaged private property and hundreds of acres of land.
This gorse fire burned near Lauragh last Tuesday and Gardaí say it caused significant damage.
Gardaí say this large gorse fire engorged a huge area and caused significant damage to hundreds of acres of land, which they say has a huge knock-on effect for wildlife habitats.
The fire near Lauragh also damaged private property.
Gardaí in Kenmare say they are looking for any information in relation to the cause or starting point of this fire.
Anyone with any information can contact Kenmare Garda Station on 064 66 41177.
Gardaí are reminding members of the public that it’s illegal to burn land from March 1st to August 31st.
They say this year in particular has been so dry that the vegetation would burn so much faster, compared to previous years.
Gardaí are also urging people to also be careful when going camping and lighting fires or barbeques.
