Garda pay, staffing and safety will dominate discussions in Killarney today at the annual Garda Representative Association conference.
The association says this year’s conference theme - "It Was A Job Worth Doing" - reflects growing frustration in the force.
GRA President Mark O’Meara says morale is low, officers feel under attack, and the current policing model is failing frontline members.
Commissioner Drew Harris, who steps down in September, was not invited; in a statement yesterday, he said Garda management has put in place a range of additional measures to support members.
Mr O’Meara believes Commissioner Harris's successor will have a lot of work to do to rebuild trust of rank-and-file Gardaí.
