Funding has been approved for an enhanced domestic violence refuge in Tralee.
The project will be delivered by ADAPT Kerry Women’s Refuge and Support Services in partnership with Kerry County Council (KCC).
It will now progress to the planning phase with construction expected to be finished by April 2029.
The enhanced domestic violence refuge has already received stage-two approval from the Department of Housing under the Capital Assistance Scheme.
Once completed, the refuge will provide 13 family residential units together with a comprehensive range of support and therapeutic facilities.
These will include shared communal kitchen and living spaces, an emergency response room, therapeutic spaces, and study areas to support residents accessing education.
Staff offices and administrative areas will also form part of the development.
The project will replace ADAPT Kerry’s existing six-unit refuge.
Kerry County Council have given over an adjoining site for parking at the refuge.
The funding has been welcomed by Kerry TDs Minister Norma Foley and Deputy Michael Cahill.
