A former soldier has been found guilty of the murder of his friend in Mid Kerry.
A verdict in the trial of Thomas Carroll, with an address at Brookway, Clonmel, Co Tipperary was returned in the Central Criminal Court in Limerick.
The 67-year-old has been found guilty of the murder of 84-year-old Paddy O'Mahony at Ballyreameen, near Castlemaine, on February 24th 2024.
Mr Carroll is represented by senior defence counsel Mark Nicholas, and barrister Michael McCormack,, instructed by solicitors Pat Mann and John Cashell.
A postmortem examination determined that Mr O’Mahony died as a result of haemorrhage and shock - from the bullet of the single shot passing through him.
The jury of eight men and four women began deliberations at 15.10PM on Wednesday, before retiring over 40 minutes later.
The jury resumed this morning and returned a unanimous verdict shortly after 12.30, following a total of three and a half hours of deliberations.
