Former Irish Eurovision winner worried withdrawing from Eurovision will undermine opportunity to foster peace

A former Irish Eurovision winner is worried that pulling out of the Eurovision will rob ordinary people of one the few opportunities to join together.

Dana Rosemary Scallon says she is horrified by the situation in Gaza.

However, the singer songwriter is concerned that political decisions by RTÉ and other European broadcasters to pull out if Israel takes part, could undermine the contest's mission to foster peace and connection:

Dana is also a former Presidential candidate, who received a nomination to appear on the ballot paper from Kerry County Council in 2004.

She believes it's anti-democratic of Fine Gael to tell its councillors to block potential independent candidates from getting nominated by local authorities:
