Over 30,000 actions were recorded by lifeguards at Kerry beaches across the summer months.
That’s according to Kerry County Council figures released at a recent local authority meeting.
It shows lifeguards at Kerry’s 15 blue flag beaches were involved in a number of measures during bathing season, including rescues, accident prevention incidents and administration of first aid.
The report shows that between June and August, lifeguards on Kerry beaches were involved 30,105 actions.
25 rescues were carried out during the season, with July accounting for 15 of these.
Rescues crafts were deployed on beaches in the county 91 times across the summer, six times in June, 46 in July, and on 39 occasions in August.
First aid was administered 1491 times, with August accounting for the majority of these, when Kerry lifeguards administered first aid 870 times.
66 locate children reports were received during the season across the county’s beaches.
Water safety advice was given to beach goers 17,404 times during the period, while 4,139 incidents of other were recorded.
This includes general advice that is not water safety based, such as local information and directions.
The statistics show 6,889 accidents were prevented by lifeguards on Kerry beaches, 1,105 in June, 2,815 in July and 2,969 in August.
