Fire service called to five fires in six weeks at Shronowen Bog

The Kerry Fire service has been called five times in the past six weeks to fires at Shronowen Bog in North Kerry.

The bog between Listowel and Ballylongford has seen several fires that have destroyed bogland habitat and birds nests.

The Listowel fire brigade was called to fires twice in March and three times this month, including twice in one day, last Tuesday.

On two occasions in April, the Ballybunion fire brigade assisted in fighting the bog fires.

Burning of any kind at this time of year is illegal.
