Expected surge in flu cases arrives at University Hospital Kerry

The expected surge in flu cases at Christmas has arrived at University Hospital Kerry (UHK) later than expected.

The clinical director of UHK, Dr Peter Browne, says the hospital is now under more pressure than for quite a while

He stresses that if someone needs emergency care, the best place for them is the emergency department.

However, if your case is not an emergency, GPs, pharmacies and the Local Injury Units in Bantry and Mallow are better alternatives.

Dr Browne says if you have a virus like the flu, covid or RSV, stay at home, isolate from the vulnerable, drink fluids and use paracetamol, before going to your GP:
