The ESB is going to reveal its plans for the future of one of Ireland's biggest fossil fuel plants when it announces a major decarbonisation strategy later this morning.
The first phase of the project would see wind turbines able to generate 400 megawatts of power installed 16km out to sea -- with another 1.1 gigawatts to follow later.
Independent TD for Co Clare, Michael McNamara, says when there's more wind power than needed, it could be used to split water molecules as fuel for cars.
