Householders in Kerry are being urged to check their septic tanks to see if they’re working properly.
That’s the plea of programme manager with the Environmental Protection Agency, Noel Byrne.
It’s after figures from the EPA found 56% of domestic septic tanks nationally failed inspection in 2024
Kerry County Council inspected 65 tanks last year, while over 300 system failures have been reported since 2013.
Noel Byrne praised the local authority for its resolution rate of 86%.
He’s reminding homeowners in the county that if they find faults, grants are available to rectify issues with septic tanks.
