An East Kerry man who received both a kidney and a pancreas transplant has welcomed a new law on organ donation.
From today, most people aged 18 and over will be considered an organ donor unless they op-out on an official register.
John Paul Lehane from Gneeveguilla received a kidney from his brother Barry in 2018.
Two years later (2020), he received a pancreas from an anonymous donor, which was necessitated by his diabetes.
John Paul Lehane, his brother Barry, and wife Edel are taking part in next month's Ring of Kerry Charity Cycle to raise funds for the Irish Kidney Association.
He says he would not have been able to do the 180km cycle had he not received the transplants.
