€7 million in funding has been announced for upgrades at the Ashe Memorial Hall in Tralee.
The allocation is part of over €90 million in supports announced under the Town Centre First Heritage Revival Scheme (THRIVE).
The funding has been welcomed by Children’s Minister and Kerry Fianna Fáil TD Norma Foley, Deputy Michael Cahill, and Fine Gael Senator Mike Kennelly.
The building, located on Denny Street in Tralee, was opened in 1928 and named after Irish-patriot Thomas Ashe.
Under the THRIVE scheme, the grant of €7 million is earmarked for the preservation and enhancement of the Ashe Memorial Hall.
It will provide a community rooftop garden, an expansion of Kerry County Museum space, solar PV panels, a ‘changing places’ toilet with shower facilities for disabled people and other amenities.
In July, Councillors in the Tralee Municipal District unanimously approved the restoration and upgrading of the Ashe Memorial Hall.
Redevelopment works are expected to begin in late 2025, with the finished facility set to serve as a cultural and community anchor in Tralee for decades to come.
The Town Centre First Heritage Revival Scheme is co-funded by the government of Ireland and European Union.
