€4 million euro in funding has been announced to accelerate the retrofitting of social homes in Kerry.
This funding was announced by Minister for Housing James Browne.
It has been welcomed by Independent TD Danny Healy-Rae, Fine Gael senator Mike Kennelly and Fianna Fáil TD Michael Cahill.
This funding has been allocated under the Energy Efficiency Retrofit Programme (EERP) to support local authorities with the retrofit of around 3,500 social homes.
Nationally, €140 million had been allocated; €4 million of that will go Kerry County Council for such projects in this county.
The Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage, James Browne says this programme has made a huge impact nationally and in Kerry both in terms of the quality of our housing stock and in addressing the challenges of climate change.
Over 11,000 homes have been deep retrofitted since the scheme was first introduced, and this increase in funding would see an additional 3,500 social homes retrofitted by the end of 2026.
Minister Browne says we must ensure our existing housing stock is brought up to a very high standard.
