A Kerry TD has told the Dáil that the roof of a North Kerry school is in a “bad state”.
Sinn Fein’s deputy Pa Daly raised the issue of the hall roof at Scoil Réalta na Maidine, the Listowel Boys School, in Listowel recently.
The hall was built around 1960, and is named in honour of its former principal, the well-known writer Bryan McMahon.
It was refused funding under the Climate Action Grant Scheme.
The principal, Kieran Quirke, told parents that the school hall will have to be closed in the New Year due to the condition of the roof and ceiling, adding that this is not good enough and that the children deserve better.
In the Dáil chamber, Deputy Daly called on the Minister for Education to intervene:
Minister Patrick O'Donovan agreed to pass the matter to the education minister.
