The man accused of murdering Kenmare farmer Mike Gaine, is awaiting documents to proceed with a High Court bail application.
The update was provided by solicitor Pat Mann at Tralee District Court today before Judge David Waters.
54-year-old American man Michael Kelley, who had been living in Tralee, faces a single charge of murder.
Michael Gaine was last seen in Kenmare on March 20th last year and a missing persons investigation was launched, before later being upgraded to a homicide investigation.
The dismembered remains of the 56-year-old farmer were discovered while slurry was being spread on the farmland in Carrig East in May 2025.
In February this year, American man Michael Kelley was arrested and charged with murdering Mike Gaine at Carrig, Kenmare, contrary to common law, between the 20th and 21st of March 2025.
Mr Kelley appeared via video-link from Cork Prison this morning wearing a green polo shirt, with a shaved head and trimmed beard.
The 54-year-old spoke to confirm that he could see and hear the court and said “good morning Mr Mann” to his solicitor Pat Mann.
Sergeant Chris Manton told the court that the book of evidence is not yet available in the case and applied for a further remand in custody.
Mr Mann consented to this and told the judge he is awaiting documentation to proceed with a bail application before the High Court.
Judge David Waters remanded Michael Kelley in continuing custody, to appear before Tralee District Court on April 15th via video-link for the book of evidence.
At the conclusion of the sitting Mr Mann confirmed the details of the next appearance, Mr Kelley replied saying “thank you sir”.
