Councillors have agreed to a draft variation to the Kerry County Development Plan.
This variation aims to enhance the capacity to deliver housing and create jobs in the Tralee Municipal District.
A special meeting took place in County Buildings recently which saw councillors discuss and agree to the proposed changes and amendments.
This is the first of a number of variations of the County Development Plan.
Following an initial period of public consultation on the draft variation earlier in the year, submissions on the draft plan were received by the council.
At a recent meeting, the council approved a number of amendments which Kerry County Council says will ensure sufficient land is zoned for both residential and economic development within the Tralee Municipal District.
A local transport plan is incorporated into the plan; this transport plan outlines a framework to encourage walking, cycling and a transition to sustainable modes of transport.
Director of Services for planning, environment and emergency management with the council, James Nolan says the agreed amendments will now go on display for a four-week period in accordance with the statutory process.
Further submissions and observations will be invited from members of the public during this time-frame; it’s expected that the process will be finished in July and the plan will go before Kerry County Council for adoption.
