A Kerry county councillor is urging the initiation of town twinning between Castlemaine and Castlemaine in Australia.
Fine Gael councillor Tommy Griffin raised the matter at the Castleisland-Corca Dhuibhne MD meeting.
He says the home of the Wild Colonial Boy should be linked with it’s Victorian namesake down under for obvious reasons.
The tale of Jack Duggan is told in the ballad of the Irish-Australian bushranger who was killed in a gunfight with police.
In response to Cllr Griffin’s question, the council advised that it’s currently reviewing civic protocols including twinning, and a proposal will be considered.
