A Fine Gael councillor is urging that warning signs be installed to alert buses not to use the Short Mountain road.
Cllr Tommy Griffin made the plea at the recent Castleisland-Corca Dhuibhne Municipal District meeting.
He says google maps is directing people driving from Tralee to Castlemaine along this route, but it is not suitable for large vehicles.
Speaking at the meeting Cllr Tommy Griffin outlined that he had been contacted by several residents relating to buses travelling along the short mountain road.
He says he’s also been made aware of tourists taking the route and discovering it’s a very dangerous and narrow road.
The Fine Gael councillor described this route being used by tour buses and heavy goods vehicles as a health and safety issue.
He added that Google Maps seems to be the problem in directing drivers along the road.
Cllr Griffin requested as this route stretches across two electoral areas in Tralee and Corca Dhuibhne MD’s, that warning signs be erected at each end.
In response, Kerry County Council advised it will review signage along this route and provide suitable signs.
It added this work is suitable through County Councillors allocations.
