An Independent councillor has urged for a targeted tourism campaign to be run in America to encourage more visitors to Kerry.
Cllr Podge Foley tabled the motion at the recent full meeting of Kerry County Council.
He stated over 50 million Americans claim Irish heritage and when they visit the country they’re blown away by the reception and aim to come back.
Cllr Foley urged the Tourism Minister and tourism boards to target areas of strong Irish ancestry with an aim to promote rural regions.
He said many tourists should "see the real deal Irish country side" and experience Kerry, in particular struggling tourist areas.
The motion was seconded by Fine Gael councillor Angie Baily.
