An independent councillor is urging the Department of Justice to cover the costs of the Kerry County Coroner.
Cllr Charlie Farrelly raised a motion to write to the department with the request at a recent full council meeting.
The Coroner's Court holds inquests into any sudden, unnatural, violent or unexplained deaths to determine how the person died.
Cllr Farrelly says these court cost are paid annually by Kerry County Council and amount to €450,000.
He added a public consultation into its reform closed in January 2024, and nothing has changed.
The motion was seconded by Kerry Independent Alliance Councillor John O’Donoghue, who says he can’t figure out how some local authorities around the country pay coroners cost and others don’t.
